Hi, um first time poster, long time reader...
Alright, I am working on a Nine Times Sarah Williams Crossed Over Unknowingly (And The One Time She Did So Willingly) or the weirdest year abroad Sarah ever experienced. So far, the plotline goes from New York to England to Japan and I am trying to find good series for Sarah to run into.
In no particular order:
New York 1.Heroes-- being nice to Japanese tourists. 2. Gargoyles-- Sarah gets saved, Broadway puns are done, and Chunky Munky ice cream is exchanged. 3.?
England 4.Torchwood/Doctor Who-- flirtations and saving the free world from evil space chickens. 5.? 6. Stardust-- Sarah travels to Wall. 7.Neverwhere?-- an Incident happens; Sarah runs (a freaky brush with dark things and owl wings)
Japan 8.Inuyasha-- it always pays to listen to the old men about older stories. 9.? 10.Xxxholic-- Sarah seeks out the Witch.
I am leaning towards Sarah running across fandoms in humorous stituations or finding kindred spirits (Coraline, Dogsbody, His Dark Materials etc.)
And I am completely stucked on Five Friends Sarah Didn't Meet in the Labyrinth aka what happens when I have too much caffine and read about Rosalinda, Queen Chickens, and Final Fantasty. . .. ...Sarah and Hoggle find a chocobo, get to the castle in record time, and destory everything in their path through no fault of thier own.
Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Gacked from </a></a> cinsangel </font>This is a "Pay It Forward" kind of meme-ish thing.
I will send a *handmade* gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my LJ requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don't know what that gift will be yet, but you will receive it within 365 days. The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your blog.
The "gift" you send doesn't have to be handmade. It can be fic, icons, whatever.
Fics or pdf file comics and books are most likely.

I am very, very upset.
In the last 48 hours I have had two separate friends bail on me. Within hours of making two different plans to see the new Transformer movie, both called me up and said they can't make due to relationship and school conflicts which I understand, I really do.
But I still end up alone.
And it hurts. It hurts to always be the one calling, to be the one to suggest plans, to ask about schedules, to switch shifts, and extending the effort to keep up the friendships and try and try and try and get so little back.
And I know my friends have busy lives filled with school, work, and other people. I work two jobs myself, a set one in the evening and a flexible one on weekends, but I try because you have to culivate your relationships otherwise they will wither like roses without rain.
This last week has just been the last straw.
Earlier, one of friends had his birthday on the 3rd and 4th at his parents home with most of our friends. He mentioned to me in passing the week before as he is leaving for a family trip to Colorado. This is a rather large celebration that I want to attend. I leave a message asking for details since I get off for the 4th on my evening job and need to ask off for the other before the schedule is made. No return message. No details. The night of the 2rd I call him up and ask for details since I work in the morning at my other job, but had the afternoon off and could join them then.
He tells me his parents live 120 miles away.
Then asks what my schedule is like.
I wanted to go. I always want to go. Why the hell couldn't he have told me two weeks in advance so I could like I asked? I have to work to make these arrangements; it is common sense and common courtesty to give people some notice if you are planning an event.
I wanted to go. I always want to go. Why do I always have to hear about it?
I would have asked off for the 4th, gotten up early, and driven down if I had some sort of notice. Is it so damm hard to leave a voice mail, e-mail, or mention it to me with some more detail then we are doing something around the 3rd and 4th?
If you can't make a movie, can you make lunch? If you can't make lunch, can you make a cup of coffee? You can spare 15 damm minutes to at least to /talk/ to me. To return my damm call.
I try and try and try and sometimes it seems like I am the only one making an effort.
And it hurts.
I am going to bed and have myself a good cry.

Xmas update.
I am with all my family. More than 23 people in one house for most of the day. It is an experience to say the least.
Does anyone have a good idea on a 1-2 gigabyte mp3 player under $50? Not an Ipod-- I got one this season and do not something that can be lost, stuck in the wash or sat on... just a player that holds more than 15 songs.
I really hate it when people do not listen to you and then expect you to be happy and grateful when you get EXACTLY what you told them not to.
Would y'all give me some writing prompts to help with me with the holiday madness. Give me three prompts: must include fandom, character(s), a quote/color/random object you choose.
And I will see what I can do.
Anyone want some Discworld books?

This should teach never to venture into any thread with the words 'childfree' in them. I understand and sympathize that family, friends, and society can put pressure on adults to procreate even if they do not want to. I hate it too when it seems that every place on the planet has been turned into a McDonalds playground (I can't go my local dollar movie because of it being overrun with loud little teenyboppers), but...
Your cat or dog no matter how beloved is the same as a human child. Seriously, I know how much people can love their pets, but making the argument that you are discriminated against because your coworker takes off to be with her sick four year old and you can't get paid leave to take Poochie to the vet is more than a little off.
A child =/= a family pet. Honestly, there IS a difference.
I adored my Brenda and cried for days when she died, but she was a cat, no matter how much I wanted to make her it a little person.

I really hate it when people try to draw morality lessons from the animal kingdom. They are animals. Ideas, ethics, morality, and philosophy are concepts that apply to them-- only to us.
Right: Yes, homosexuality and a wide variety of other sexual behaviors is found in nature, hence it is not unnatural. But so is infanticide, assault, and murder.
Left: Homosexuality is found nature across a variety of species. It is not unnatural, but being moral is an entirely different kettle of fish.
Personally, I believe love doesn't depend on the body you're in, but these kind of arguments make my head ache.

Is it really impossible to expect a heroine in a video game to achieve a medium between double D ex-Marine and a pudding for brains princess?
My best friend and I just finished playing together (he played and I watched) Clocktower 3 in which 15 year old Alyssa couldn't decide if she was Buffy or vampire victim #3. It was a survival horror in the Rincewind fashion (Discworld reference) ie. run away instead of mowing down zombies with your tommy gun, but the controls were wonky, there was one hiding spot on each level, and the boss fights had previously uncoordinated Alyssa channeling Xena.
All in all, it was a frustrating, uneven experience. The cut scenes showed a frightened but competent protagonist while game play had me yelling 'you silly little bint' when Alyssa would freeze up in sheer panic letting the serial killer bash her brains out.
Haunting Ground has better game play (as well as a white German Shepherd to help out), but I have never seen a heroine fall down her butt, faint, or freeze up while three feet away there are psychotic freaks who want to do /bad/ things to her lithe little body. The character design is gorgeous, but the Japanese obviously with the patent panty shots and Gainix bounce is obiviously alive and well.
I don't think it is asking much to have a heroine who is competent without falling into the superhuman or superidiot.

Recently met a woman with a new baby girl.
Baby's name Neaveh, that is Heaven spelled backwards.
Ughh.
What is with the all out craziness of parents these days? Hollywood is its own explaination. But seriously, if your child's name could double as a porn star name or a new My Lil Pony, you seriously need to rethink your choice.
Or better yet if doesn't fit with Supreme Court Justice in the front, just drop it.
Or if you need to explain how your baby's name is spelled beyond 'C' or 'K'.

I saw the Midnight showing of Superman Returns and call I can say it was near perfect. Forget the mutants, the boy in blue is the superhero for the summer.
And for Ouran Host Club fans, host clubs really exist and are very popular in Japan http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060628/od_nm/japan_hosts_dc;_ylt=AiRoEkB2yrMkcyb5nikFzRPtiBIF;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--

I recently got way too much information from a friend of a friend at a late night get-together. You know, it is 3 a.m. you are slightly sleepy, slightly buzzed, your mouth has no connection to your brain, well, 'Janie' and I were getting along pretty well when she takes a sip of soda and proceeds to tell me about her on-going love affair with her mother's ex-husband, her former stepfather.
WTF.
TMI.
And 'ew'.
So apparently, when Janie moved up north she looked up her former stepfather because she was didn't know alot of people, he treated her out, and somewhere along the line they started dating.
And Janie doesn't see why most of her friends have been giving her grief about this.
The fact that she is twenty, he is in his early fifties, he has slept with her mom, been a quasi- parental unit to her when she still a tweenie, and her mom doesn't have a clue (and she boasted about that) doesn't ring any bells.
A simple reason why don't get involve with members of your family unit, ex or otherwise: don't mess where you nest.
In other words, getting romanticly involved with people who had/have relationships with your family/friends/social network is a recipe for diseaster.
When love life sounds like a Montel special or a storyline from General Hospital, it is best to get out fast.

Drabble meme nicked from memlu:
Choose a letter of the alphabet and name a word that begins with that letter. (Once a letter is taken, future posters have to choose another letter.) Name a fandom. I will write you a drabble for that fandom based around the theme of that word.

In honor of I love the 80s remix and my original childhood fangirling, a brand new meme:
In the spirit of the retro, plastic jellies, big hair, and bad color combinations, name your top eight animated crushes and why before you knew what anime was!
8.Schmendrick from the Last Unicorn-- The man was a schmuck quite literally, but captured my interest like no other. The Last Unicorn was a fairy tale in truth, bittersweet and bone deep before the darkness was bled away into pastel Victorian sensibilities. Schmendrick was a second rate pickpocket, ragbag wizard, and dry eyed dreamer, but spoke truths deeper than any singing seafood special could hope to mark on a wide eyed audience.
7.Charlotte from Charlotte's Web-- Bambi might have made me tear up, but Charlotte will always make me weep like a babe in arms. Lovely, wise, little spider taught me more on the value of words and the finality of things than my Sunday school ever did. I will not kill a spider to this day in her memory.
6.Starlite from Rainbow Brite-- All little girls are horse mad, I think it hardwired into double X chromosome. The Black Stallion was the first movie I sat through and Starlite was the first horse I wanted. Vain, imperious, and beautiful, Starlite embodied every pony Santa letter and why I find Alan Rickman so alluring, even if I was clueless at the time.
5.Justin from The Secret of NIMH-- I watched my copy until the VHS burned out and I still can't pined down how just how the animators managed to make him hot. Justin is strong, brave, intelligent, and a free thinker with a good sword arm and a softness for ladies in distress. And his introduction plays up a sneaking menace until we realize he's a good-guy with an award-winning smile.
4.Tramp from Lady and the Tramp-- I'm pretty sure Tramp was my first animated crush (and I really wanted a dog as a kid.) Feckless and fearless, Tramp was a smooth operator until he fell head over heels for a pair of big brown eyes. A rogue, a con artist, a cocksure canine Cary Grant, what isn't to love?
3.Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-- From the title you know the creators were goofing around or smoking some pretty good crack but this show was a favorite of every 80s baby and Leo was mine. Whether because of a shared eldest child syndrome or because of my childhood blue fetish, I adored poor responsible Leo who got all the duty and none of the respect, but the best frigging' weapons ever. (Looking back it is mildly disturbing how attractive those turtles were.)
2.MacBeth from Gargoyles (and pretty much the rest of the cast)-- Not quite 80s, but my first full blown fangirl obsession, Gargoyles deserves its laurels. Macbeth had the clothes, the accent, and the charm of being an honorable man without being a 'good guy.' And the Sean Connery similarity. And getting me perks in my eighth grade honors English class for knowing that Macbeth was historical propaganda.
1.Darkheart from the Care Bears II-- Complete crack I know, but a grumpy bedroom eyed redhead that magically flickers into various animals when he hiccups and still manages to be a terrifying villain counts in my book. And he reforms out of love of the tough minded heroine.
I was a weird kid.
